Share your blogs on Facebook, Twitter and all kinds of social media

Blogging does not require any specific skill or qualification. If you can speak the language you want to blog in well enough, if you have the desire to get your point of view across to unknown people, then it is your field of action, said Shail Raghuvanshi, renowned blogger, journalist and author, at the 10th twitter chat of Bloggers Alliance.

Telling about her blogging journey, Shail Raghuvanshi said, “I started blogging in the year 2010. I remember it was a poem for Woman’s Day. It was a poem which I then followed up with an article and a book review. And, the variety of topics was interesting enough to attract the attention of people worldwide. So, while one wrote about arts and artists, there were others who wrote about food, drama, music, spirituality, humor and even novelettes. Blogging was one medium that crossed all barriers of distance, generation and community. A real hit online!”

The second and most important milestone was when she started an e-magazine, one of the few ones during that time. It was actually a platform for all kinds of writers, professional and amateur, Indian and foreign. The milestones or achievements in her blogging came she commenced a poetry blog, which catered only to poetry posts. “I had always been a writer for magazines, newspapers and later for websites. So, I was comfortable for almost two decades writing on demand. When blogging begun, sprouting around me, I wasn’t too keen to pursue the medium, because it was something to write for someone else.”

Blogging requires consistency. You need to write and perfect yourself and then, package yourself to be effective, means of communication to society. When asked how to increase the readership of a blog, Shail said, “Share your blogs on Facebook, Twitter and all kinds of social media, where you think people might be interested in the stuff you write. And always be willing to come out of one's shell to express appreciation for other blogs if you find a beautiful post.”

When asked on the need for monetization of blogs, the seasoned blogger replied, “I would advise not going in for monetization if you are new to blogging. First establish yourself then, go in for the business. If you are good enough, you can also write guest posts for others. That is a way of attracting people, a different crowd that might want your services of writing through your blog posts. Reviewing commercial products, writing content for websites are some of the simpler measures.”

Adding value to the chat, Vijay Nallawala said, “A blogger cannot neglect his audience for long. The readership built over years has to be nurtured. Out of sight is out of mind.”

KritiMakhija, CFO, GenesisBCW also gave few tips from her blogging experience, like - the topic of the blog should be of your choice, it must offer value, encourage interaction, make commenting easy, give a punchy title, share personal experiences, use images, keep it regular and write an error-free copy.

The weekly blogger chat series, first in India born amid lockdown on 22nd March, 2020, is hosted on @blogindiablog – the official handle of the Chandigarh Chapter of Bloggers Alliance.
